How Often Should I See A Dentist?

This is a question that is often asked.  The truth is there is no right answer.  The American Dental Association recommends at least twice a year.  So what is the point of going to the dentist if you already brush your teeth and floss regularly?

No matter how well you take care of your teeth at home there are very good reasons to get yourself to a dentist.  Your dentist has tools to clean plaque away that your electric toothbrush just can’t clean.  That extra plaque you can’t remove can lead to bacterial buildup which can cause gum disease and tooth decay.  Your dentist also can examine you for oral health problems such as cavities and early stage gum disease.  The treatments for these problems are much easier and more effective when detected early.  Do not wait to find out!

Ultimately how often you go to the dentist has a lot to do with the health of your gums.  If your gums are healthy and there is no tooth decay you could go every 9 or 12 months.  Some people will go based on their dental insurance coverage.  Brighton Family Dental recommends you go as often as needed based on your health.  There are people who should be at a dentist 3 to 4 times a year.

Still unsure how often you should go?  Call Brighton Family Dental in the Buffalo, NY area today at (716) 836-4590 for a dental checkup and ask a dentist to assist you in planning the best time to schedule your next follow up visit.

  1. I get this question a lot. As we age, our teeth gradually darker and more yellow due to internal staining. This occurs more rapidly if you smoke or drink a lot of coffee, tea or red wine. this is nice post. San Jose Dentist
